SHIPS FESTIVAL

On Friday September 10th
the Tall Ships gather off Laguna
Beach and sail down the coast.
Their sails start appearing in
the late afternoon off Dana Point
Headlands as they prepare for
entering the Dana Point Harbor.
This is always a spectacular Sunset
Tall Ships Parade! From your Aventura
Boat, prepare to watch the crews
of these Ships work their sails
and defend themselves from the
cannon blasts of the renegade
vessels.
The Ocean Institute is celebrating
the 26th Toshiba Tall Ships Festival,
one of the largest annual gatherings
of tall ships on the West Coast.
The festival will feature a spectacular
array of family fun activities
including live music, art shows,
and food. Enjoy maritime displays
and presentations, Polynesian
dancers, seachantey concerts,
and interactive pirate encampments
and dramatic sunset cannon battles.
Plan on watching the action from
our water front patio bar &
grill!!

SAILING
REFRESHER DAY

Has
it been too long since your
last charter? Do you feel like
you’ve forgotten the routine
for docking. Has sail trim not
worked for you? Are you hesitant
to go out in heavy winds?
If you meet any of the above
requirements, join other sailors
in the same boat “so to speak”
for a day of sailing, practice
and review. Participation in
this event will put your charter
status back in good standing
while you enjoy a full day on
the water. We will cover some
required skills, talk about
safety issues, but mostly we
will do the things you need
to practice the most, and you
will be good to go for some
pleasant fall sailing.
The class will meet at Aventura
10:00 AM, and we will return
at 5:00 PM. Bring a list of
any questions or things you
want covered, a bag lunch and
drinks. You must call the office
to reserve a spot by Friday
before the office closes. Class
is limited to 6 people. Cost
will be $60.00. If you can’t
make this event, there will
be other future classes.
Don’t forget to bring your gambling
luck along and stay for Casino
Night at Aventura. This is one
of the biggest events, second
only to the Luau, so make this
a full day of fun. Details are
elsewhere in this newsletter.

We’d

will once again arrive at the
Isthmus in Catalina. Aventura
will have a fabulous fleet cruise
departing
on Thurs, Sept 30, and returning
to Dana Point on Sun, Oct 3, 2010.

three weekends in October is the
Catalina Jaz Trax Festival at
the Casino Ballroom in Avalon.
Yes, wild as it sounds, we’re

a boat for both of these dynamite
events, and forget to come home

WITCHES
& WARLOCKS FULL MOON RACE

The
Aventura T.G.I.F. races ended
August 29th due to early darkness
creeping in to end the fun.
But BEWARE!! There may be more
creepy and scary things in store
as Aventura hosts one more Friday
night race! Come join the witches
and warlocks as we race into
the dark abyss with only the
full moon to lead the way. Costumes
are a must if you want to look
the part, and prizes will be
given for the best witch or
warlock and for the best dressed
crew.
Gather your night racing safety
gear, red flashlights, black
cats, and ugliness for a race
in the dark, then meet in the
lounge as we get a bite (ha
ha, to eat), bob for apples,
and have some witch’s brew to
round out the night.
A Skipper’s meeting will take
place at 5:30 in the lounge
and the start will be at 7:00
pm.
Aventura members can call the
office and charter their own
boat or come to the skipper’s
meeting to draw for skippers
and a place to crew on an Aventura
boat.

date for our 17th Annual Aventura
Cup is set and it’s not too soon
to begin forming syndicates and
organizing teams. This is the
biggest Aventura racing event
of the year and kicks off our
winter series. Last year we had
over 50 compete for the Cup. Once
again we’ll be limited by the
number of Aventura boats available,
so skippers start planning your
challenges now. Team registrations
(five per crew) will begin in
Sept for both skippers and crew. |
