Aventura is a club with over 700 happy, pleasant, down to earth members, who want to share their enjoyment of boating with you! We teach you how to sail and keep you sailing! Our members participate in many social events on the water and in our lounge.

Aventura maintains a large fleet of 28 to 47 ft. sailboats, for your use at very affordable rates. When you sail with Aventura, you're the skipper, in command of your own boat, saving the cost of a paid captain and going wherever you want to go. You pay for the boat only while you're sailing, avoiding all the high costs associated with owning a boat. Try sailing the Aventura way, and you'll see it's smarter to charter. On your fully-equipped Aventura charter yacht, you can go sailing for an afternoon and enjoy the whales, dolphins, sea lions, and all our full-of-life ocean;

Social Sails

Aventura has put together a sailing event almost every week for its members and their families to participate in. Social sails are casual and fun events. You'll meet your fellow sailors and members in a relaxed, low pressure setting and get some extra sailing experience. Boat cost is shared equally among the crew. Bring your friends, family and your own refreshments and snacks. Dress for the weather - remember it's cooler on the water - and bring a camera. You never know what we might come across.

Shadow Sailors

This program has been developed to help newly graduated sailors feel more comfortable taking out their first charters. A shadow sailor is an experienced Aventura member who will accompany the new member as a guest at no charge. Your shadow sailor will be there as a backup if help is needed, as reassurance, or to give reminders of things forgotten or unsafe.

If you want to take advantage of this volunteer program please call the office for list of Aventura Shadow sailors list. If you feel you are qualified and want to volunteer to be a Shadow Sailor.

To make a reservation for a 30-foot boat on any fleet cruise, you must have passed tests for both Basic Sailing and Coastal Navigation (see the Sailing Instruction pages of the web site).

For Catalina trips, we strongly recommend, but do not require, Cruising Catalina Island seminar.

Summer Wine Fest at Two Harbors Fleet Cruise - June 3-5

This trip to Catalina's Isthmus is perfect for when moorings are plentiful, days are long, and crowds are still down.You'll visit Catalina's wild West End country, and the outpost of civilization there.Plan on a great barbecue on Saturday night on the beach, some good hiking, snorkeling, or just lazing around, and a great trip both ways across the ocean. Santa Barbara Island - Aug 11-14

A 4-day cruising adventure to Santa Barbara Island! On Thursday, we leave at 0800 from Dana and that night pick up a mooring in Emerald Bay, one of the most beautiful spots on Catalina and a great place for diving or snorkeling. A cocktail party will ensue as soon as all boats arrive. On Friday, we sail about 20 miles beyond Catalina's west end, to Santa Barbara Island, the isolated southern gem of the Channel Islands National Park and a California Sea Lion and Elephant Seal rookery. Here we anchor for the night.

You can explore this one square mile jewel that you (and the National Park Service) own, either on land or by dinghy as you watch the Sea Lions play! Saturday afternoon, we head back to anchor in Catalina Harbor on the "Hawaii side" of Two Harbors and on Sunday head home around Catalina's East End.A truly exotic voyage for those brave enough! Buccaneer Days at Two Harbors - Sept 29-Oct 2

Join the fleet at Two Harbors, Catalina, for a party second only to Aventura's Luau in July. Come in pirate garb, practice the one-letter pirate alphabet (Rrrrrr!) and enjoy a crazy good time. With moorings at a premium this weekend, we strongly recommend a 4-day trip: Leave Thursday, join your fleet for an on-shore barbecue Friday night,be a Buccaneer on Saturday, and sail back Sunday. There's plenty of time to explore the west end of the island in the best sailing month of the year. Reserve as early as July 1 for this trip if you are fully qualified - and you will want to be!

Cruising to Catalina Easy As 1-2-3

One of the challenges for many new sailors is how to get the confidence to make that first voyage to Catalina. There have been many Aventura fleet sails across the channel; some were billed as for first-timers, but never such a specially designed program as our new 1-2-3 Catalina cruising program.

The program begins after graduation from the basic sailing program with encouragement to get involved in day charters with other members. Possibilities include social sails, racing, and family charters with security blankets called Shadow Sailors. During these experiences you begin to hear the stories about Catalina cruising.

A requirement for multiple day charters is passing Aventura's navigation exam, so this becomes number one in the 1-2-3 series leading to cruising. Navigation classes are offered approximately every two months.

Number two in the series is learning about Catalina cruising during a seminar. This program provides an overview of planning, executing and enjoying the cruise.

Number three is an actual fleet sail to Catalina. Not only will you sail together in a group of boats with knowledgeable and experienced members, you'll also have an expert fleet captain available to mentor and guide you through your first cruising experience. You'll be free to enjoy the island and group social gatherings without the stress of being alone or uncertain about your new sailing/cruising skills.

From this first cruising experience may come years of adventures in the California Channel Islands and maybe even islands in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. And it all begins with these first steps, as easy as 1-2-3.

Aventura Racing

Aventura has a year-round club racing program that allows you to participate in non-spinnaker round-the-marks races on Summer Friday evenings and Winter Saturday mornings.

Aventura Cup XVIII and Winter & Summer Series Race Results:

Slammer Syndicate skippered by Dick Jester and crew Joe Ferris, Bob Belhumeur, Graham Forsyth, and Cory Howard take home the Aventua Cup with a first place finish in race one and a third place finish in race two. Second place went to Doug Ellners team Breakin Wind with crew Igor Geyfman, Pavel Ugoltsev, Debbie Borner, and Dulari Parikh. Third place went to Marty Henahans Cup Challengerswith crew Frank Andrews, Esther Berg, and David Bye.

Cognac Run team took home the Lobster Pot Trophy. Light wind conditions persisted throughout the day resulting in three restarts in the first race. Conditions definitely tested the Skippers light wind tactics and those who managed a good start finished in the money. Overall it was another great day out on the water with eleven teams participating in Aventuras premiere regatta. Special thanks to Chef Bob and his staff who put on a great spread for the post race celebration and Trophy presentations.

Other Trophy winners included the Montage Spirit award going to Bill Tolbert who drove all the way from Tuscon Arizona to race in the Cup. The Bill Davidson Trophy was presented to the Lady sailors who crewed for the various teams and they included Vicki Sweet, Linda Pauer, Mary Swan, Esther Berg, Debbie Borner, Nancy Eaton, Cathy Nesselroad, Traci Labollita, Judy McKeon, Sylvia Stevenson, and Karen Eberhart.

WINTER & SUMMER SERIES RESULTS

The 2010 Winter Series Champ was Traci Labollita, Second place went to Ron Lee, and Third place went to Igor Geyfman. The 2011 Summer Series Champ was Chris Nessleroad. Second place went to Doug Ellner and Third place went to Traci Labollita. The Winter Series races start November 19th, meet in the lounge by 11:00 am race day.

AVENTURA WINTER RACING SEASON STARTS
