Aventura Sailing Academy is proud to be an Award-Winning Professional Certification Facility of American Sailing. In 2021, our Academy Director was voted n.9 out of 2678 ASA instructors worldwide and was on of the only 2 to gain such recognition in all of California.

Our Academy is offering all ASA certifications, including the 200 series courses that grant you the right to become an instructor for the respective ASA course.   All of our Instructors are ASA certified and can guide you through each step to obtaining any certification you choose.

Our classroom overlooks the beautiful Dana Point Harbor and is arguably the best training facility in the whole West Coast of the United States.

The importance of ASA Certificates:

ASA Certificates have become the standard used by most bareboat Chartering companies and Sailing clubs.  Whether in national or international waters,  your certificates along with your experience (Log book) are foundational elements in the Chartering community requirements.

ASA 101

Our Basic Sailing course consists of 20 hours of instruction designed for the student with limited or no experience in sailing and will qualify members for chartering. Included are 8 hours of classroom lecture emphasizing nautical terminology, aerodynamics of sail, boating safety, rules of the road, radio procedure, anchoring and heavy weather survival. In addition, students exercise practical sailing skills in 12 hours of lab sessions aboard 30ft boats, with emphasis on sailing maneuvers, docking procedures and “man-overboard” recovery techniques. An additional one hour lab emphasizing Aventura charter policies, boat systems, and safety is given to current and prospective members. After this, you can charter sailboats as big as 32 ft (refer to “Certification Information for Chartering” section).
